MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CLAPHAM!

‘Tis the season to celebrate the declaration of the angelic hosts who 2000 years ago proclaimed, “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men…for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord!”

So, we celebrate Christmas, with all of its beautiful trappings of lights, Christmas trees, presents and families gathering together for a wonderful and memorable time of feasting and festivities.

Yet, there are those who would question whether it is right to celebrate Christmas the way we do?  Do we not lose the meaning of the message in all this external extravagance?

To that I would respond, yes, there is a danger of missing the message.  And

When I look at the Christmas lights and various and multi-colored decorations I am reminded of the One who was sent as the “Light of the World” by the Father of Lights.  And if we think about it, God is the One who is the most excessive and extravagant of all living in creative splendor and glory far beyond the imagination. And He knows how to make an entrance and throw a party! God loves to find opportunities for a good celebration.  And He loves to do for His children exceeding abundantly more than we could ask or think.  God is the supreme “family man,” since He created the family unit and constantly seeks to add more to His family.  As far as He is concerned the more the merrier!  He loves family and He loves to celebrate with His family.

The giving of gifts is also a reminder to us of THE ULTIMATE GIFT-GIVER, our heavenly Father who gave the gift of His Son to save mankind.  Many traditions during the Christmas season also include the giving of self to others in need which is the greatest reminder of our Savior’s love and sacrifice for us.

So finally, as we celebrate Christmas this year let’s take time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.  Before we get carried away with the hustle and bustle of the demands of the season, let’s remember we are celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace; so take time to allow His peace to prevail and His joy to fill you and overflow in all that you do.  And let the lights and decorations, the gifts and family gatherings be beautiful reminders of the true joy of the season.

This is what Christmas means to us here at Clapham as we pray it will be for you as well in your Christmas celebrations!   So to all of you we wish you a wonderful and magical, peaceful and joyful, Jesus filled… MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CLAPHAM!
