About

In the early part of 2006, Daniel and Jeanette Tostenson were introduced to the story of William Wilberforce and his Clapham Circle of friends:

In the latter part of the 18th century, William Wilberforce was a young member of the British Parliament, and a recent convert to Christianity.

Upon his conversion, he thought of leaving a career in politics and pursuing a more “spiritual” occupation. However, after seeking counsel from his pastor, John Newton (A former slave trader), he was convinced  that the realm of  politics was his spiritual calling and that taking up the fight against the slave trade was to be his spiritual pursuit.

During this time William was also introduced to a group of individuals from a small community in England known as Clapham. Though some were in the professional ministry, most of the members of this close-knit group were made upof lay people and business professionals. They believed their calling was to impact the world around them for the Gospel ofJesus Christ from outside of the four walls of a church building, The group willingly gave of their time, talents and resources to pursue spiritual reform in a variety of societal areas, including prison and welfare reform, missions, addressing the moral decline in society, and of course, the abolition of the slave trade. Together, William Wilberforce and his Clapham friends were able, through much toil and great personal sacrifice, to impact and effectively change the world around them for the

Gospel of Jesus Christ, the eventual abolition of the slavetrade being considered as their most glorious and lastingvictory.

The story of William Wilberforce and his Clapham Friends is what stirred Daniel and Jeanette’s hearts, first giv ing them a passion for seeing the restoration of America back to God, and second, that, in order to accomplish this, believers must recognize and embrace the truth that God is calling all of His followers to impact ALL of society; and that their calling, though it may bring them through the door of professional ministry, more likely will take them through unlikely “doors of ministry” that could include the arenas of politics and government, business, media, entertainment, education and community involvement to name a few.

It is in light of Daniel and Jeanette’s introduction to the story of William Wilberforce and his Clapham Circle of Friends (and what they were able to accomplish together), along with their own unique set of life experiences and spiritual direction, that they felt their calling of God to speak to the needs outside of the church walls and to encourage others who may find that same sense of spiritual nudging from the Lord.

Daniel & Jeanette are also small business owner... their life goal is to leave a foundation to support Christian works for future generations.
